Christchurch Rebuilding On The World Stage

The Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT) is responsible for the publicly owned horizontal infrastructure rebuild of Christchurch, following the devastating 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. In the wake of these disasters the spotlight has been put on the rebuild process being delivered by SCIRT, which involves five construction companies, local and central government.

The efforts of SCIRT were recognised in 2013 by the United Kingdom Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), when they were awarded the Brunel Medal, an international award recognising excellence in civil engineering. This is only the second time in its history that the medal has been awarded to a team outside of the United Kingdom.

As a result of this recognition, Fulton Hogan’s Duncan Gibb (Executive General Manager of SCIRT) was appointed as the 10th International Brunel Lecturer, an 18 month appointment providing opportunities to speak at locations around the world.

“I’m very privileged to act as a representative for the ICE as the Brunel Lecturer and proud to be an ambassador for Christchurch and of course for Fulton Hogan,” said Duncan.

Duncan Gibb was also made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers last year.
