Quality roading network

New Plymouth District, with a population of around 70,000 people, makes up the largest district in Taranaki, New Zealand. Fulton Hogan is committed to assisting communities to become better connected and understands that a good quality roading network offers the freedom to residents and visitors to travel throughout the district in a safe and efficient way.

On this project, our team has worked closely with the New Plymouth District Council on its road maintenance contracts for more than five years, looking after the maintenance and renewal of NPDC’s 1,3000km of roads.

The rural network consists of 784km of sealed and 183km of unsealed roads and we look after drainage, pavements, vegetation, grading, maintenance metalling and incident response.

With 318 bridges, five road tunnels, Egmont National Park and the Rural Fire Fighting in the contract, our maintenance work here is challenging and varied.

Urban maintenance contract

The urban maintenance contract involves keeping the city streets in good order, 24 hours a day, including street sweeping and vegetation control, pavement, as well as drainage and signage repairs. Fulton Hogan also has the job of responding to floods, slips and snow, which all pose problems for the city’s roading network.

With a limited budget, Fulton Hogan works closely with the New Plymouth District Council to ensure that the road network is maintained to its best possible condition. We do this by identifying defects early and ensuring the correct treatment is applied to ensure the longevity of the roading network. Importantly, throughout the maintenance contract, Fulton Hogan has also maintained a good health and safety record.
